Emily Hanford has for years been reporting on a crisis in American education, namely that children are not learning how to read, because they are being taught with methods that simply do not work.
She published a landmark article in the New York Times in 2018, "Why Are We Still Teaching Reading the Wrong Way?
She then created the widely viewed podcast "Sold a Story: How Teaching Kids to Read Went So Wrong." for American Public Media.
