Arthur Heilman
(1914-2014)
Arthur W. Heilman earned a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Iowa in 1950, and was the director of reading laboratories at Michigan State, University of Oklahoma, and Pennsylvania State, where he directed their Reading Center from 1962 until his retirement in 1979.
He was a prolific author of books on teaching reading, with a strong emphasis on phonics. His best knowm work is Phonics in Proper Perspective, which went through ten editions between 1964 and 2006.
Heilman produced titles in his series Phonics We Use devoted to individual letters of the alphabet.
