Debbie Hepplewhite

Debbie Hepplewhite is a former teacher and school headteacher in the UK who developed most valuable charts of the alphabetic code that are freely downloadable from Phonics International.

This is page 1 of seven pages. A second version offers accompanying pictures for each of the alternative spellings. Hepplewhite's charts are greatly expanded compared to the charts of the 44 Phonemes available from the Dyslexia Reading Well in the US.

Hepplewhite's work advising the British Department for Education on their 2005 report Teaching Children to Read was recognized by making her an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire).

In addition to her work with Phonics International, her website SyntheticPhonics.com offers several web pages with freely downloadable resources for teaching the alphabetic code, including audio of her pronunciations (British, of course) of all the phonemes. She also offers printed versions for sale, including individual decodable books suitable for home use and packaged sets for classrooms.
