Mark Seidenberg is a neuroscientist and psycholinguist and the Donald O. Hebb professor in the department of psychology at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He writes the website Reading Rockets.

His 2018 book Reading at the Speed of Sight criticizes much of the "scientific research" available in defense of "whole language as flawed.

Seidenberg wrote a very critical reply to Lucy Calkins' essay "No One Gets to Own the Term "The Science of Reading.". His reply was titled "This Is Why We Don't Have Better Readers."
