Alvin Liberman

Alvin Liberman was a psychologist and one of the first scientists to conduct research and experimental studies in the field of speech development and linguistics. He was a professor of psychology at the University of Connecticut and professor of linguistics at Yale University as well as the president of Haskins Laboratories at Yale from 1975 through 1986, where great work has been done by Sally Shaywitz and her husband Bennett Shaywitz.

Liberman was an early researcher in speech synthesis and in the 1940's developed an early version of a reading machine for the blind.
